Assistance to Distant Family Members

We can assist distant family members who are trying to assess mom or dad’s care needs while they get protective arrangements in place. See our “consulting” services for more information about assistance in obtaining protective arrangements.

If you just got a call that someone you love needs someone to step in and handle their affairs, we can conduct a comprehensive assessment to determine what the family member’s specific needs are so that the decision-maker can implement appropriately. We utilize screening tools to gain insight into an individual’s cognitive status and, if impairments are indicated, recommend referral for professional medical evaluation. We conduct interviews in the individual’s home and formulate a safety and activities of daily living assessment based on our observations and interactions. We work with families to explore alternatives to guardianship and court intervention, developing a clear set of options for protecting the family member in need of assistance.

We can also facilitate relocation to long-term placement near family members, providing a financial, medical and social assessment to gain a thorough understanding of the kind of placement the family member needs. We then can utilize our extensive network in the elder services industry to help identify local options.
